How We Work/FAQs

I'm expecting a new baby. Do I need to see the doctor before I deliver?
You don't have to, but if you want to visit our clinic or meet with any of our doctors, just call us to arrange a prenatal visit.
With what hospitals is your practice affiliated?
We see newborns at Methodist Germantown Hospital, Methodist South Hospital, and Baptist Memorial Hospital. When you arrive at the hospital to deliver, just tell the registration person that you want to follow-up at Memphis Children's Clinic, and they will call us! If you deliver at another hospital, you can still see us after you leave. Just let your nurse know to which of our offices you will be taking your newborn.

We strongly believe in taking care of our own patients when they are sick enough to require hospitalization (complete cradle to independence care). We admit to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center and LeBonheur Germantown Pediatric Unit. We will come in and continue to take care of you while your child is in the hospital.
What hours are your offices open?
All our locations are open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 8 am to 12 pm. On Sundays and all Holidays, we always have one location open (please call for an appointment).
Will I always see the same doctor?
Most families do see the same doctor. You get to choose whichever doctor you and your children feel most comfortable with. As they get older, your children may prefer different doctors based on personality or gender. Just specify which doctor you would like to see when scheduling an appointment.
Which insurance plans do you accept?
We strongly believe in providing exceptional care to children regardless of insurance plan. We accept a wide variety of insurance plans. For questions, call us at 901-396-0390 and ask for the business office.
How about vaccinations?
We strongly believe in protecting children through vaccination. We follow the recommended schedule from the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) and ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices). Please see our section under Well Child Exams and Immunizations for further information.

We have enrolled in the VFC program so that every child, regardless of financial status, will be immunized. The program is federally funded and provides vaccines to children that have no insurance or whose insurance does not cover immunizations. These vaccines are the same as those given to privately insured patients.
How do you schedule a well child exam or sick visit? When do I usually need to bring my child in for a well child exam or shots?
What if I have a question but am not sure if I need to see the doctor?
We have nurses available to answer your questions during office hours. Please feel free to call at any time with any questions or concerns. If the nursing line is busy, our staff will return your call as quickly as possible.
What labs can you do at your office? X-rays?
All offices have CLIA certified labs and include the following tests:
Urine Analysis/Culture
Strep Test
Mono Test
Flu Test
Urine Pregnancy

The Whitehaven office has x-ray capabilities on most days for simple radiographs.
How do you handle after hours calls?
We have nursing support with physician backup 24 hours a day every day. Please see our section on Sick Kids/After Hours for more details.
What are Lab Hours?
Lab Hours refer to times when you may come in and get follow-up lab procedures done or immunizations without a doctor visit. The hours are posted at each office.
What if I need a referral to a specialist?
We will discuss with you which specialist would be appropriate and then work with you and your insurance company to find the best one for your child. Memphis Children's Clinic has great relationships with some of the finest pediatric specialty providers the Mid-South has to offer.
How do you handle prescription refills?
Requests for prescription refills can be addressed to the nursing call line during office hours. Please allow 48 hours for your prescription request to be completed. Medications cannot be refilled after hours.
What about camp forms, school forms, shot records, or FMLA paperwork?
We are happy to complete these forms for you. In order to do this, your child should have had a well child visit within the past 12 months. There is no charge for completing most types of these forms, but there is a charge of $35.00 for FMLA paperwork. We will need 48 hours for most forms and 5 business days for FMLA or requests for special services at school. We can send completed forms by mail or fax, whichever works best for you.
